Past Purchase Value Calculator

The calculator takes an amount in dirhams spent on 24K gold at a chosen year-end rate, works out how many grams that bought, and values the same grams at today's rate, which answers the question a Dubai buyer asks about a bar or coin bought years ago and kept in a drawer, and the investing guide compares the ways to hold gold today.

Reading the Dubai Gold Chart

Because the dirham has been fixed at 3.6725 to the dollar since 1997, the Dubai gold chart is the international gold chart with the axis relabelled, and every percentage move in the table is the same in dollars and dirhams; buyers pricing in rupees, euros, or pounds see a different shape because their currency moved as well. The series here uses COMEX futures closes, which sit within a small premium of the spot price that Dubai boards display, and the retail price in any year added a making charge on jewellery and, from 1 January 2018, 5% VAT. The August 2026 recap covers the most recent month in detail, and the daily rate page carries today's figure by karat.

Dubai Gold Rate History FAQ

What was the gold rate in Dubai 10 years ago?

In 2016 gold futures closed the year at $1,150.00 per ounce, which at the fixed 3.6725 dirham peg is AED 135.65 per gram for 24K and AED 124.38 for 22K. On 2026-09-04 the 24K rate is AED 528.71 per gram, 289.77% higher in dirham terms.

Why can historical gold prices be converted to dirhams exactly?

The UAE dirham has been pegged to the US dollar at 3.6725 since 1997, so every historical dollar price converts to dirhams at the same rate. A Dubai gold chart in AED is therefore the international gold chart rescaled, with no separate currency movement, unlike a chart in rupees or euros.

Which year had the biggest gold price rise?

Within the last ten calendar years in this series, 2025 had the largest year-end to year-end rise at +62.80%, closing at $4,325.60 per ounce, or AED 510.23 per gram for 24K.

Where does the historical data come from?

The monthly and daily series are COMEX gold futures closing prices from Yahoo Finance, refreshed with every daily rebuild of this site. Futures closes track the spot price within a small premium, and the Dubai per-gram rate is derived at the 3.6725 peg and the 0.999 purity factor for 24K.

Does this page show the Dubai Gold Souk retail price history?

No. The page shows the metal rate history. Retail prices in the Gold Souk added a making charge on jewellery in every period and 5% VAT since 1 January 2018, so a piece bought in the souk in any year cost more than the per-gram figure here.
