What Drove Gold in August 2026

Central-bank accumulation remained the structural driver: J.P. Morgan Global Research forecasts around 755 tonnes of central bank gold purchases for 2026, a historically exceptional pace that follows the record 2025 buying, per J.P. Morgan's gold outlook. On top of that floor, August added the cyclical fuel: markets priced US rate cuts and a softer dollar, and gold cleared the $4,000 mark decisively after opening the month at its low. State Street's 2026 outlook frames the same move as a structural bull cycle. Bank forecasts for year-end vary widely; treat any single target as one scenario, not a plan.

What the Move Means in Dubai, in AED per Gram

Because the dirham is pegged at 3.6725 per US dollar, AED gold rates move one-for-one with the dollar price. An ounce move from $4,049 to $4,530 is a per-gram move from about AED 478 to AED 535 for pure gold (ounce ÷ 31.1035 × 3.6725), which is where the roughly AED 57-per-gram August increase comes from. The live reference on publication day: 24K at AED 525.66 per gram, 22K at AED 481.98. Current rates by karat update daily on the Dubai gold rate page.

Levels to Watch in September

Three marks frame September 2026 for gold watchers: the $4,641 August high, the $4,000 to 4,050 base the market defended, and the US rate path that has steered gold all year.

A note on method: this recap uses only checkable numbers, daily closes from Yahoo Finance and named bank research. Round-number forecasts you see quoted elsewhere ($5,000, $6,000) are scenarios from those banks' reports, not facts about the market.
